The Earthquake Disaster Relief Mission is our most urgent need at this time. No donation is too small. Lama Tashi Topgyal will leave for Tibet on May 1, 2010 to go to the Jyekundo area to provide as much assistance as possible. Lama Tatop, as well as other members of the Ratkrul Foundation are very familiar with this area, and are able to asses the needs, and provide practical as well as spiritual assistance at this critical time. Below is an excerpt from th tricycle editor's blog to help give you a better idea of the devastation done

"We are very sad to report that hundreds have died and an estimated 10,000 mostly ethnic Tibetans were injured and left homeless in near-freezing temperatures in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck a sparsely populated region of Tibet in the early hours of April 14. More than 85 percent of the houses in Jiegu, a town of 100,000 people nearest the epicenter, were destroyed.

Because solid information is still emerging from officials working in the area, it is difficult to know how many remain buried in the rubble. Most of the people in the region are Tibetan herders and farmers who are in immediate need of shelter, medicine, clothing and other necessities"

As we now know, children, the elderly as well as monastics were injured or killed in this massive quake. Please subscribe to our newsletter. We will post upates on our progress as we are able.

Lama Tashi Topgyal will disburse financial aid to help all people who were affected by the level 7.1 earthquake that devastated the Jyekundo area in Tibet on April 14, 2010.The Raktrul Foundation will wire transfer funds as relief efforts continue.

child welfare concerns for tibet

2010/2011:
We need funding to find teachers, and village elders to support our long term goals. We also need funds for books, schools supplies, warm clothes, and access to education.

2010/2011:
Many people remain without access to power. We need partners who can contribute technology, funding & professional expertise to bring more solar stations to Tibet.

2010/2011:
We need a doctor or nurse to launch a sustainable clinic in the area. We must recruit and train more Community Health Workers. To do so we will return to the area in 2010.

NIGHT INTO DAY : The Plan for 2010/2011
The Raktrul Foundation will support the efforts of the Tibetan community in the following ways:
Bring a team from the US in the summer of 2010 to offer additional medical services, continuing health care education and a reassessment of the needs of the people in the greater Raktrul area.
Formally acquire from the Chinese government the newly donated school property, located adjacent to the Raktrul Nunnery near the village of Dortam.
Develop an agreement between Raktrul Foundation and the local community to collaborate on the establishment of a new medical facility.
Identify the renovation and construction needs of the newly acquired buildings and create a rehab work plan which will include an energy assessment to determine whether the new clinic can rely on solar systems.
Identify the various tradesmen and contractors needed to complete the work for the medical facility.
If you would like to be a part of the Night Into Day Mission, please contact our Medical Director: Kirk Moulton for more information about our needs. We welcome your support.
