Lama Nyima Tsering

Lama Nyima Tsering was born at Shorda, near Nangchen Dzong in Qinghai, China.

At a very early age, Lama Nyima demonstrated considerable enthusiasm in virtue and kindness to animals and benevolence towards others.

When he was ten years old, Lama Nyima Tsering took Novice Ordination vows in the presence of Lama Barway Dorje.  He always had with him a little book of additional prayers which he recited throughout the day, and he diligently completed the graduated meditation training of our tradition.

In 1993, he received Full Ordination vows from Mingyur Rinpoche of Gargon, and from 1993 to 1996 he practiced meditation intensively in the hermitage of Raktrul Monastery under the guidance of the retreat Master Atuk.  In particular, his training included the complete Barom Kagyu Mahamudra meditation system according to the Barway Dorje tradition.

From 1996 to 1999 he remained in retreat for a second period of three years, and then undertook the role of retreat master.  While doing so, he diligently practiced the tradition of Barway Dorje for a third three-year period which he completed in 2002.  After that he studied with the learned Abbot Drukgyal and the Abbot Dorje.

From January 2006 to the present, he has lived continuously at Raktrul Monastery and taken on such day to day responsibilities as making religious sculptures used in practice and leading prayers. Lama Nyima Tsering has also been the liturgy organizer of Raktrul Moansery responsible for selecting liturgical texts to use, their order of use and seating, ensuring all required practice materials are present and scheduling the day and weeklong events.
