KPL Religious Projects in Tibet

Village Shrine Halls

Two lay communities in Phintar, near Raktrul, were in need of a shrine halls for general practice and for Nyungne retreats. Thanks to support from generous donors the shrine halls have been built. At Domre Tsakha community shrine hall, each year 200 people do Tukdrup Parchay Kunsel, a practice of Guru Rinpoche by Terchen Chokgyur Lingpa. In 2008, the community did a 21-day practice and completed two million mantras. During that retreat, three meals a day were offered to each participant. Domre Tsakha community also does an annual seven-day Amitabha practice. The new shrine hall offers space for ceremonies done by lamas for local families, and long-life ceremonies done by the community for the lamas.

Domren Dro community shrine hall can also house practices done by over 200 people annually. In 2008, the community did a ten-day Tara practice and accumulated a million repetitions of the twenty-one praises. They also held a three-day Guru Rinpoche practice and a seven-day Amitabha practice, which they intend to do every year. The shrine hall is a place for ceremonies for families and long-life ceremonies that the community performs for lamas.

Rupas donated for the village shrine halls included a 1000-Armed Chenrezik (two-story high), Guru Rinpoche (one-story high), and Buddha Amitabha (one-story high). The statues were sponsored by the Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Group from the USA through the efforts of Raymond Wu.

The project was completed in 2008.

Raktrul Nunnery

The situation of Raktrul nuns was very difficult. With support from generous donors, notably the Chödrön Foundation, we were able build a new nunnery and retreat facility. The project was completed in 2007. At the end of 2008 and in early 2009, the nunnery shrine was painted. In 2009, during his journey to Tibet, Bardor Tulku Rinpoche formally consecrated the new Raktrul nunnery.

Raktrul Three-Year Retreat

With support from generous donors, we have built a new three-year retreat facility for Raktrul Nunnery, a great improvement over the old facility. This will allow many nuns to undertake the traditional training in a three-year retreat.
